Luxé Golfing in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is more than a gambling oasis and the world's largest adult playground. With its great year-round weather, there is a bevy of fine golf courses, too. Narrowing down the list of places to play to 10 was no small task. So, to ensure the best interest of our readership, we forthrightly reserve the right to add more Las Vegas championship golf courses in due time.

Wolf Creek Golf Club in Mesquite

Wolf Creek Golf Club is so beautiful that God himself may have done the landscaping. However, after playing the course, many golfers feel that the designer might have been a little less than holy! USGA ranked Wolf Creek as the third most difficult course in America. The lush grass of the mountainous desert is so beautiful that it is mind altering. Since Wolf Creek is open to the public, all golfers can get a whack at this very demanding course. Depending upon the tee boxes chosen, the course ranges from 4,169 to 7,108 yards.

It is northeast of Las Vegas and about a one-hour's drive away. Selecting the most eye-captivating vista would probably be as difficult as playing the course calmly. Bring your clubs, camera, and therapist!

Cascata

Cascata is among the championship level golf courses of Harrah's Golf. Rees Jones, who is known as The Open Doctor for redesigning seven sites on the PGA Tour, designed this par-72 course. Having opened in just 2000, Cascata is viewed as a "desert classic" by such notable publications as Golf Magazine and Golfweek. The course ranks in top-100 lists of many regarded sources. The Tuscan-styled, 37,000-square-foot clubhouse is the epitome of Old World charm. But don't let the elegance of the layout be a distraction.

The seventh hole of Cascasta is a downhill par three with water to the front and left of the green. Hole 18, which is a par five at 559 yards, offers an opportunity for a birdie for gamblers, but playing it safe is advised.

A Golfer's Paradise

The Montgomerie Dubai Clubhouse was essentially designed for a male clientele. Understanding that the majority of its clientele would be male, The Montgomerie was designed with a distinctively masculine atmosphere. Catering primarily to golfers, there is a dominant colour scheme that prevails in all the areas of the hotel. Leather and oak paneling are abundantly used as well as other high quality materials, creating a stylish, yet unpretentious environment. Golf courses on site were designed by Colin Montgomerie and Gordon Desmond Muirhead.

As many guests are golf players travelling in groups, most of the rooms are twin bedded with the additional comfort of a sofa bed in each room. All of the furniture is oversized and designed to be ideal to relax in after a day on the golf course. Modern amenities are not neglected, such as 32" LCD televisions with CD and DVD facilities. The hotel also offers complimentary high-speed Internet and mini bar selection.

Business centre services, in-house movie and music libraries are also at your disposal as well as a personalised butler service and 24 hour room service. Should you prefer to dine out, the award-winning restaurant, Nineteen, is on site. Chefs at Nineteen have nothing to be shy about, here meals are made on display in a "show kitchen" that allows patrons to witness their dinner being prepared. A variety of other dining options are also available for breakfast and lunch.

In addition to the gymnasium, plunge pool, steam room and outdoor pool, the hotel has recently introduced the Angsana Spa to its Clubhouse facilities. This leisure retreat offers 6 treatment rooms and a complete range of treatments and therapies. There is particular emphasis on the use of natural ingredients such as native flowers, fruits, herbs, spices and plants. Treatments are based on the use of aromatherapy, the therapeutic sense of touch, and a fusion of restorative techniques from the East and West. Every therapist undergoes professional training at the Banyan Tree Spa Academy located in Phuket, Thailand.

A golfer's delight, The Montgomerie Dubai is a fine place for a man's vacation. Take your son or spend some time with old friends, here you will find the ultimate golf get away.

U.S. Open Puts Torrey Pines and Golf World in the News

It was anything but a mundane Monday at the Torrey Pines Golf course in La Jolla, Calif. The festivities of the 2008 U.S. Open carried on an additional day with a spirited 19-hole playoff between Tiger Woods and Rocco Mediate. The weather was perfect for the duel that featured two champions playing for one trophy, the popular favorite versus the unknown underdog. By the day's end, the players' mutual feats of athleticism and sportsmanship added a great day to the history of the U.S. Open. While Woods ultimately won, Rocco Mediate forever won the respect of the gallery.

The weather cooperated marvelously from beginning to end, as the event drew record crowds over the extended weekend. It is no wonder that the city's Mayor Sanders would love to see the Open return to Torrey Pines in 2015. The facility, owned by the city of San Diego, is only the second municipal-owned golfing complex to ever host the U.S. Open. The first municipal-owned site to hold the event was the Black Course in Bethpage, NY. Torrey Pines also is the annual site of the PGA's Buick Invitational tournament. This year's U.S. Open was held on the South course. Rees Jones did a makeover of the South course in 2001. Williiam Bell Sr. is the golf architect who transformed the area in 1957 to a golf complex from a U.S. Navy camp.

The inviting public-accessible center features two 18-hole championship courses, the North and the South courses. The view from every angle on each course is captivating with the ocean to the west and a mountainous terrain with lurking wildlife visible off in the distance as a backdrop. The "Torrey Pines experience" ranks highly on many golfers' courses "to-play" list.

The Torrey Pines Golf Course is about 20 miles from downtown San Diego. The TP facilities rival those of affluent private clubs in both size and scope. Tee-times can be reserved from eight to 90 days in advance, and there is an automated service to reserve tee-times of seven days or less as well.

The Torrey Pines Golf School has certified PGA and LPGA golfers who teach privately and hold clinics for players of all levels. Corporate and special social outings also can be arranged under their tutelage, such as a private tourney. The pro shop offers club fittings and gift certificates to use the facility are available.

JustLuxe Close Up and Personal

I could only imagine how slow networks were across the U.S. with all viewers watching online Monday. With JustLuxe.com being a San Diego-based company, many of our hardworking staffers took a well-deserved timeout to catch the conclusion of the tournament online. It was amazing to hear roars coming from other parts of the building. The JL staff was split down the middle in cheering for Rocco the underdog, and Tiger the g-r-r-reat!
